What mining power actually does

Mining power governs how quickly your drones extract ore from the planet surface. In Mine a Planet's idle loop, extraction is the first half of every income cycle: mine, carry, deposit, repeat. When mining power is low, lasers stay on the rock longer, trips start late, and every downstream stat — cargo and speed — has less to work with.

Unlike cargo or speed, mining power does not directly multiply trip value or frequency. It unlocks throughput at the source. That makes it the default early-game S-tier upgrade and a recurring A-tier investment whenever planet evolution introduces tougher ore layers that resist weak lasers.

S-tier windows for mining power

Mining power is S-tier when you watch drones stand at deposits for most of the cycle. If the laser phase visibly dominates trip length, stronger mining is your highest-return purchase.

Mining power is S-tier immediately after planet evolution if new ore tiers take noticeably longer to break. Evolution shifts the difficulty curve; fleet mining must catch up or your entire pipeline stalls.

Mining power is S-tier when adding a new drone does not increase hourly income much. Extra drones share the same slow extraction; fixing the laser bottleneck unlocks their potential.

A-tier: maintain, do not neglect

Once extraction feels snappy, mining power drops to A-tier — still worth upgrading, but no longer the emergency priority. At this stage cargo or speed likely holds you back. Continue investing in mining power on a steady schedule (every few purchases) so evolution never catches you under-geared.

Fleet-wide mining upgrades scale with every drone you own, which keeps mining power efficient at A-tier deep into mid game. Per-drone vanity upgrades without mining scaling fall to B-tier compared with fleet laser improvements.

B-tier and below: when to skip temporarily

Mining power becomes B-tier when drones clear deposits faster than they can haul or return. Pouring more laser strength while cargo planes sit half-empty wastes currency — fix cargo first.

Mining power is C-tier if you are considering premium rarity rolls to fix income. Rolls may change cosmetics or minor bonuses, but they do not replace a fleet laser upgrade when extraction is the provable bottleneck.

Mining power is D-tier when copying endgame builds that assume maxed evolution layers you have not reached. Those players skipped mining struggles because they solved them weeks ago; you have not.

Pairing mining power with other stats

The classic healthy ratio: raise mining power until deposits empty at roughly the same time drones finish hauling, then raise cargo, then speed. Deviating is fine when your diagnosis shows a different idle segment, but this sequence prevents over-investing in transit speed while lasers still struggle.

For offline income, mining power still matters because offline payouts simulate completed cycles. Slow mining means fewer simulated cycles per offline hour. Do not ignore lasers just because you plan to log off — weak mining hurts both live and offline earnings.
